March 2026 Tax Calendar: Key Dates for Individuals

We are heading into the final stretch of tax season here in California. With the April deadline looming, March is the critical month to organize your documentation and finalize your filing strategy with us. Here are the specific dates you need to watch.

March 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

For our clients in the service industry, accurate reporting is vital. If you are an employee who earned more than $20 in tips during February, you must report them to your employer by March 10 using IRS Form 4070. You can also use a personal statement that includes your signature, SSN, employer name, the period covered, and the total tips received.

Why does this matter? Your employer needs this data to withhold the correct FICA and income taxes. If this isn't handled now, you might see "uncollected withholding" in Box 8 of your W-2 later, which translates to a lump-sum tax bill when you file your annual return.

March 16: The Appointment Cut-Off

We are exactly one month out from the federal deadline. If you haven't booked a slot with our team at Christiansen Accounting yet, please reach out immediately. Our seven-person team is working through back-to-back appointments, and slots are becoming scarce.

A common misconception: Many taxpayers wait to call because they are missing one or two documents. Please do not do this. It is far better to meet with us now, identify the gaps, and send the missing items later.

Even if you anticipate needing an extension, we still need to review your numbers now. Remember, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. We want to help you calculate a precise estimate to avoid unnecessary interest and penalties.

Standard Rules and Exceptions

Weekends & Holidays: As always, if a due date hits a weekend or legal holiday, you have until the next business day.

Disaster Relief: Given recent weather patterns, keep an eye on official announcements. If a region is designated a disaster area, deadlines may shift automatically. You can verify current declarations here:
